Rob Donn - Gaelic Poet (Bard)
Jana’s contribution to the Mackay Heritage project involving a number of artists, celebrating the life and work of Rob Donn.
Ink painting and transcribed script selected from the book ‘The World of Rob Donn’ by Ian Grimble. “Rob Donn as many others during the era when he was alive, was illiterate and therefore was never able to write down any of his poems and songs. The bards kept their creations alive in their memory and in the memory of others, although many works were forgotten over the years. I found it fascinating that Rob Donn, towards the end of his life remembered in such great detail what he created, especially considering the immense scale of his work. I imagine, he perhaps didn't recite the works to the transcriber chronologically, therefor the poems in my piece overlap in no particular order, most of them becoming ineligible as more and more come to the surface.” Visit the Strathnaver Museum and the Mackay Country Trust. |
